Health Informatics Training and Research Advancement Center (HITRAC) is a Non-Profit Organization and affiliate of the Health Informatics Unit within the Center of Public Health Interventions (CEPHI) in the Department of Community Medicine, University of Zimbabwe. HITRAC's main focus is in Health Systems Strengthening through the use of appropriate Information and Communication Technologies in Africa and beyond.
Brief Background
HITRAC is an offshoot of the Health Informatics Unit (HIU) that was established in the Center for Evaluation Public Health Interventions (CEPHI) in 2003. It was upgraded from a Unit to a center in 2011. To this effect, HITRAC has had more than a decade of experience in health informatics and health management information systems in Zimbabwe and the Southern African Development Community (SADC) region.
The department of community medicine has supported HITRAC over the years with much of the administration coming from that end. The department makes up a key resource with the chair of department playing the advisory role in the organization.
